“Tall Ships”

July 2, 2006

So, I’m back from Beijing & now spending 5 days down at Emerald Isle, NC for the 4th. This weekend is the “Tall Ships Parade of Sail” or, the “Pepsi Americas’ Sail 2006“… I’ve never been to one of these, but I guess it’s a big deal. I’m not big on boats or ships or sail boats, but these things are pretty cool.

Yesterday morning, we took my uncle’s boat out through the inner coastal into the Atlantic to watch the “tall ships” make their way into Beaufort. We lined up out in the staging area to see them come in, all the while having the Coast Guard tell us to move back, repeatedly (a couple big machine guns on these things too, cool stuff). I was expecting hundreds of “tall ships,” I guess because I knew nothing about this event. There were about 14…a few of them were really impressive.

I snapped some good pictures, will put them up on flickr soon.

Today we’re off to Beaufort to walk around the harbor and check out the “tall ships” up close & personal. Hot as hell here, so I’m sure to be a sweaty mess within the hour.

Vacation, finally

April 13, 2006

Siesta Key, FL for a week…women…beer…no work…some of my family & friends from Buffalo will be there too, so really looking forward to it. I'm trying to think of some blog topics for while I'm down there…maybe I'll just recap my days/evenings/early mornings.

Pelicans dive bombing

April 8, 2006

I'm sitting out on the beach, Emerald Isle, NC, and watching the pelicans drop their wings & dive into the salty water…wonder if it hurts? Do they ever catch a fish or whatever it is they're looking for? I have yet to see one catch anything.
